Aaron “Bertie” Gekoski is an award-winning underwater/topside photographer, journalist, presenter, adventurer, travel writer and film-maker. He is currently the in-house presenter at Scubazoo, one of the world’s leading underwater production companies. His work - primarily covering the areas of diving, wildlife, travel and conservation - has been instrumental in bringing important issues on the natural world to a wider public.
Recent projects include going on an undercover mission to expose Namibia’s annual seal cull, living with rural shark fishing communities in Mozambique, pursuing the ‘tortoise mafia’ through Madagascar’s sacred forests, training as an anti-poaching ranger in Zimbabwe, and more. He has continued to explore these themes through film and shot documentaries on shark finning in Mozambique and another on Zimbabwe’s elephant crisis.
His articles and stunning images have appeared in over 40 publications worldwide including National Geographic Traveller, BBC Wildlife, Men’s Health, FHM, Travel Africa and more. He is winner of the Travel Category of the 2015 Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year competition.
A renowned underwater photographer/dive journalist, Bertie is a regular contributor to many international dive publications. His portfolio has earned him membership to the esteemed Ocean Artists Society
Recently he has photographed and written about Madagascar, Indonesia, Borneo, Malawi, Zanzibar, Mozambique, Pemba and South Africa. He is currently presenting a new series - Borneo From Below - which charts life behind the scenes at one of the top dive destinations on Earth.
Far from being a regular explorer and alpha male, Bertie’s path in to the world of adventure wasn’t the usual one. He used to own a model agency in London, before he ditched his three-step skin care regime, “swapped one type of shark for another” and followed his dreams to become “the next David Attenborough, but with gills.” You can read about this transformation in the following Men’s Health article.
Whilst he has covered some difficult subject matters, his perkiness, sense of fun and failure to take himself too seriously can throw light on even of the darkest of subject matters. To enquire about using Bertie for presenting work, please contact his agent, Jo Sarsby Management.
